[VOX Diaspora] “The First Day” without VOX

The sun rises on our first Voxless morning, as we row our little life boat away from the wreck. How’s everyone holding up? Did you post your final thoughts? Your last farewell? Did Kzinti go down with the ship?

Mine was a bit of Jekyll & Hyde reaction: a bit more sanguine writing about it on the WP side, while ranting and raving about my frustration with TP, at TP. I did a dual export to keep my options open, but the TP export went much worse. (WP was not perfect, but it was doable.)

I exported to Flickr, too, and that froze up my account until my father-in-law gave a gift of a Pro account. (It has been reworked so the new Pro account is for all my little family to share.) For the record, one of my Neighbors wished to do the same– I told her she might have an opportunity yet. She decided to go with TypePad, by the way.

I did not do any sort of farewells or anything like that at VOX, save some links on where to find me. I did correspond with a few Neighbors mid-September through VOX, to keep connections alive, but that was about it.

After seeing the closing sign yesterday, I deleted my Bookmark to VOX and generally cleaned up the rest of my Firefox Bookmarks. Not sure how much I want to bother likewise with Google Chrome…

Wherever you see "jaklumen", that's me- the username is still unique as of the current year. Be aware that the facet you see, is only a small part of the me that is me.

  1. i had VOX as my “Home” page on FF – i just deleted the link yesterday – i had brought up my page the day b4 shutdown and locked the tab so i couldn’t close it and i could say goodbye in my own time – but it was still a bit of a shock when i clicked the X to close my blog page and then reloaded and saw the Buh-bye message

weird – even after already mostly moving on

    • If you mean it would have been nice to part with VOX on your own individual terms, I think I understand. Six Apart really did pull out the rug from under us.

      • oh, exactly, jaklumen – that gave me the ability on my own terms, and when i was ready, i took a deep breath and clicked the X – i almost left it up on lock all week, though

  2. I couldn’t bring myself to go back to Vox more than a couple times since I learned it after I exported and made a spreadsheet of new neighbor links. It was just too hard to go back there. I was dreading the last days….kind of like loosing a very ill loved one.

    • I did go back a few times, but I think I can relate to what you’re saying. I’m still trying to deal with the fallout– much of the VOX Diaspora are bloggers I really didn’t have close contact with before, but some of the Neighbors I had chosen… they are hard to find.

Things change. I suppose I don’t adjust well to change, but I am doing what I can.

  3. I stopped going back a couple of weeks ago. It just hurt too much.
