a little more flourish and flow

Hello dear readers!

It’s been a long transition since the VOX platform closed in 2010, but I think I’m finally settling into the community at WordPress.  I’ve been making new friends, quite a few who have VERY well-designed blogs.  They’ve given me some new ideas that I hope will make this blog easier to navigate and read.

Jen and Tonic, upon her triumphal finish of NaBloPoMo 2013, suggested that all her readers should check out Speaker7, who she said persuaded her to participate.  So, I did.

So I read about Speaker7’s finish of NaBloPoMo, and she mentioned using Wordle to analyze her writing for the month of that challenge.  I thought, “Hey, that’d make a snazzy sidebar alternative to a word tag cloud!”  I fed this blog’s URL into the site and came up with this:

jakwordle

After some experimentation and consulting with Cimmorene, I decided that I would keep the tag cloud widget after all.  The Wordle is quite eye-catching, but it’s not interactive, while the tag cloud can still be used to navigate my posts.

So the Wordle is listed as “interconnection 1” and the tag cloud is listed as “interconnection 2”.

stephrogers pointed me to her Category widget to find posts on Asian pop (I agree– hours of fun!), and I thought that would be a good addition here as well.  I’m not sure if it’s as immediately eye-catching as featured posts (as I do for tutorial-style posts on TechsWrite). but it’ll do.  I featured I should sort out my posts a little better into those Categories as a result.

I did notice that a number of dear visitors and readers have left me Likes on my About page, which is featured among the Page tabs for this Superhero theme I’m using.  So I put links to posts and post Categories there and in all my Pages, as an invitation to read the archives.  I’ve worked really hard on some of the Hero’s Journey posts for comic book and movie characters, so I hope y’all will come take a look.

There are a few other changes under the hood, like a rework of the Flickr widget.

I notice some of my ex-VOX friends have made some great new theme changes– as I’ve said to some of you before, your blogs look snappy!

[Uh-oh, I think I’m going to use some invitation questions… no, no, anything but that…!  nooooo]

Have you made changes to your blog design recently?  I hope you’ll leave a comment.  Please let me know what features you’d like me to look at, and please tell me what you think of the changes I’ve mentioned above, if you like.  Your feedback is welcome.

Wherever you see "jaklumen", that's me. The username is still unique as of 2016, so it's just me, and only me. It's the real me, because I'm bad at faking otherwise.
