So You Want My Job: Master Penman | The Art of Manliness.

A worthy read in regards to the handwringing over the lack of cursive handwriting instruction in U.S. schools, or at least why such can be a worthwhile vocation.

  1. Oh, gosh…I’m so sorry your pain is so bad! I hope you get some relief very soon.

Will check out the article when I get my other eye done (after Monday). I can see the screen and read pretty well, but it’s very odd and makes my head spin.

  2. Wow! What an amazing artist!

I’ve been wondering about handwriting/pensmanship, whether it’s taught in schools now. When I was a kid fought hard against having to write the same way everyone else did, to make things look “just-so,” etc. I mix printing with cursive and have ever since no one was grading me for it. That was a long, long time ago, certainly WAAAY before computers! I can’t imagine having to convince kids, now, that the effort is worth it. But in hindsight I think it was. I hope they still teach some version of good penmanship in school, even if kids rebel.

    • I put this up because I had some thoughts about a Freshly Pressed WP blog entry, yet another fretting about emphasis of computer/keyboard skills to the detriment of cursive. I haven’t distilled my thoughts on it yet– I did learn cursive and calligraphy, but use neither. When I took it on myself to improve my handwriting, cursive went by the wayside in favor of manuscript block letters.
