So behind on the music blogging

In addition to more submissions from Hibernate Records in the UK, I’ve been quietly getting requests from Psychonavigation Records, which… I’m not sure where they are from. The e-mails are coming from a Keith Downey who is reportedly based out of Dublin, as in Ireland. (Works for me, I’ve got a 1st cousin once removed who has a studio in Dublin– maybe you’ve heard of him? Don Bluth, the animator.)

So I sent out e-mail replies, saying I’ve been a little bogged down with health issues and putting the kids back to school, but that I’d do what I could.

I want to be polite. Really, I do. But I do have to admit that because they are struggling independent labels and pretty much say upfront that they are happy for any exposure at all, well, I don’t think they can be too upset with me.

  1. Oh, wow…it’s tough to stay caught up with things. I’ll bet they were glad to hear from you and that they’ll be thrilled with whatever exposure they get.

    • I certainly hope so. I got an “out of office” message for Psychonavigation and I haven’t heard from Hibernate… which feels odd because Jonathan was very persistent and also was a stickler for details (correcting anything I happened to get wrong). Still, he appreciated that I gave him credit in a recent review (he writes the press releases, apparently); but even if other reviewers don’t do that– as he said many don’t– I just insist on keeping scholarly integrity and always citing sources. I set the bar pretty high for my writing and I get the impression that many bloggers don’t care so much about quality writing because turnaround is expected to be quick. It slows me down, I’m sure, but I just don’t feel right writing up a review unless I care about the music and that I care about how I express that appreciation.
